Taylor Swift’s Teardrops On My Guitar

Teardrops On My Guitar is Taylor Swift’s second single and it shows off one of Taylor’s best qualities: Her ability to disguise what could be a tremendously sad, yet beautiful ballad as a fun and catchy song. She does this by making the chorus so catchy and so sing-able that whenever you think of it, having only heard it on the radio, or knowing only a few lines, as that song that you keep singing in the car, not knowing why you do. (If you don’t understand that, listen to Teardrops On My Guitar again).

But if you listen to the song harder, not just to the sound, but maybe scroll through the lyrics, you can really tell how much this song means to Taylor, and the heartbreak she feels with it. This song is so pleasing to the ear when you hear it, and it’s always so overlooked that this was Taylor’s second single, and though it’s already such a heartfelt and beautiful track, the fact that she released it at sixteen is remarkable.

I am a big fan of Teardrops On My Guitar, and I think it’s a sour moment in Taylor’s life that she turned into a sweet song that many still enjoy, more than seventeen years later.

Something that I was curious about when it came to Teardrops On My Guitar was, is there actually a Drew, or is that just a name that Taylor made up? I’ve found that there is a Drew. Drew Hardwick to be exact. The two never dated, however, but two years after Teardrops On My Guitar came out, Drew asked her on a date, but Taylor refused.

The fun fact that I’ve selected to go with Teardrops On My Guitar is that both Tim McGraw and Teardrops on my guitar are about boys named Drew. Teardrops on my guitar, as discussed earlier, is about Drew Hardwick, a boy who did not know until the song came out that Taylor had feelings for him, and Drew Dunlap, in the song Tim McGraw, who dated Taylor before breaking up with her when he left for college, even though that song was written before he left.

The secret message for Teardrops On My Guitar is ‘he will never know.’ And I think that this secret message is a little ironic, given that this song is how Drew found out that Taylor liked him, but aside from that, I think that this makes a good unrequited love secret message, and that it’s pretty cute, but I definitely like some of Taylor’s later messages better.

Teardrops On My Guitar is a nice song, and the secret message that goes with it fits well, but again, she has released better songs since, but while I must give critiques on some of her songs, I just want to say that it is amazing that this music is coming from a sixteen-year-old, and she has been obviously gifted from when she was first releasing music.
