Breaking Down Easter Eggs

            Something that many Taylor Swift fans enjoy is that Taylor leaves little hints about her songs often referred to as Easter Eggs. These Easter eggs give swifties clues on what or who her songs are about. Some Easter Eggs can be found in her music videos, in the clothes that she wears, and even in past song lyrics, but the most obvious, and in my opinion, the most fun Easter egg she gives is her secret messages.

            As most swifties know, a secret message appears in the liner notes of the pamphlet that goes with the album. To decode the message, you must circle all of the capital letters and they spell out a phrase, and there’s one phrase for each song, oftentimes giving fans clues about who or what her songs were about.

In the 1989 era, Taylor did something a little different, instead of circling uppercase letters you had to circle lowercase letters, and instead of having thirteen different phrases, each for their own track, the lowercase letters spell out a thirteen-sentence paragraph. Each sentence in the paragraph is the secret message of one of the songs on the album, and the tracks and their messages go together. For example, secret message for the song Style, the third track on 1989, was the third sentence.

I think that I like the way that Taylor organizes her secret messages on 1989 more than what she does on the other albums because when she puts the secret messages in one paragraph because you can really tell how Taylor grows through the 1989 era.

I think that what myself and other swifties find so fun about her Easter Eggs is that we can get to know Taylor and what she thinks about her songs, and again feel like we have an insight on Taylor’s life and thoughts. Through these secret messages, and all of the Easter Eggs she gives, Taylor makes all of her fans feel like a part of her community like no other singer can do.
